I went to catch Twilight movie not long ago, and all I would say is that, it's not really up to my expectations. I bet the novels are much more intriguing than the movie. My ratings are below:
What I Like about Twilight movie:
-Has romance
-Awesome graphics effects and well-chosen characters
What I Dislike about Twilight movie:
-Too speedy; progressing too fast
-No subs(sometimes I cnt hear what they were saying particularly because they spoke too fast, so subs wld be better for me)
-Many parts were being cut off and some were added, which messed up the whole idea of the book.
-Short fighting scene; Too much romance was going on at first and the climax was not exciting enough. Not much adrenaline pulsed into me. Since the theme of Twilight is Vampires, the more they should relate more to that.)
-Moderate concrete plot and characterisation
-It can get enough capacity in the box office because the book has overwhelming fame. The books are good, but that doesn't mean that the movie should too.
Funny thing about Twilight movie:
-The characters looked like they had just been bleached. I kept laughing throughout the movie. Come on, it's a cold joke.
Graphics: 8/10
Characterisation: 7/10
Plot: 6/10
Romance: 7/10
Overall: 7/10 (my original rating is 6/10, but added 1more point because I don't want to create further disappointment among vampire fans)
I do hope when the next movie comes out, it'll be better than this.
Vampire Academy's Excerpts
Lissa Dragonmir is a Moroi princess; a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She comes from a royal family and due to an accident few years back, she is the only one left in her family. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and immortal ones.
Lissa's best friend is Rose Hathaway, who is a Dhampir. Dhampirs come from powerful blend of human and vampire blood. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them. As such, Dhampirs who are trained in St. Vladimir's Academy(hidden in the deep forests of Montanna) to protect Moroi will be called guardians.
To avoid disasters, Rose and Lissa sneak out of the Academy into the human world. After two years of illicit freedom, they are caught and dragged back to the school. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking Academy hearts.
Inside the Academy's iron gates, their world is even more fraught with danger. Here, their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose has a forbidden relationship with her mentor, Dimitri. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...
My Opinions:
I have personally enjoyed whole series of VA very much. Not that I'm biased toward this novel, I would say it is as exciting as Twilight does. But frankly speaking, I do love VA more than Twilight. I read VA first then Twilight. I'm starting on New Moon currently. In any way, they are all about vampires stories. Different people have different tastes. Twilight is alright to me, just not as thrilling as it does for me in VA. I can relate more to Rose than Bella.
Rose always fights for things she wants, a tough one. But she has her lows too. She changes slowly as the story progresses. I'm mystified by the ending always. What interests me is that there are clues and hints before the climax hits. It makes me feel like Nancy Drew, trying to figure out the truth that lies behind. It has an unexpected ending in each sequel and Richelle Mead has apparently twisted it very well. Romance and action have been carefully balanced. I'm eagerly waiting for the next book, Blood Promise to come out. Hopefully, Dimitri and Rose would get together despite their forbidden relationship, and a movie will be out anytime soon.
